Brief History of Community Futures 1984-2013 – PDF Community Futures Stuart Nechako (CFSN) began operations in 1994 (formerly known as Community Futures Development Corporation of Stuart Nechako) as an independent, non-profit organization. Community Futures is part of a national economic development program that has been supporting small business and community economic development since 1986. Our Community Futures office is a non-profit organization guided by a volunteer board of directors and staffed with business professionals. Our volunteers and staff work with Community Futures is a community based economic renewal initiative established by the federal government in 1985. Helping rural Canadians to start or expand a business and improve local economies. Working in business development has always been my passion. My career started with being a chamber manager where I was introduced to Community Futures in the early 1990’s. My involvement led to my employment and the rest is history. My work assisting both communities and entrepreneurs has been very rewarding.
